About

My name is Kababinna!

I’m a proud Coodjingburra, Bundjalung, and South Sea Islander woman. I grew up on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, and have always been drawn to traditional healing from all cultures.

Growing up, my dad was an Indigenous Health Worker for the Queensland Government, and it wasn’t until I was older that I realised there were a lot of promises made by the government when it comes to Indigenous health, but not many were being actioned. This eventually led him to leave government health, and helped me remember that to make real change, we have to start with our roots and our community.

I worked as an receptionist in an acupuncture clinic which is how I discovered Chinese medicine. I loved how it viewed the body as a whole, instead of separate parts disconnected from our environment, and one another. And I believe this is how we make meaningful, lasting changes to our health.

My goal is to be a helping hand for people on their journey to reclaiming their health.

If this resonates with you, then welcome, friend!

Moiyum - Waterlily

Yugembeh dialect from Tweed Heads, Bundjalung Nation

I was named Kababinna by my Grandfather, a Gugu Yalanji Elder from Far North Queensland.

“Kaba” means rain and “binna” means ear or to listen, so together, in Gugu Yalanji language we say rain listener. This is what we call the waterlilies, as they open up with the rain.

I chose the name Moiyum prounounced “Moi-yum” to represent the diversity of Indigenous language groups of Australia, and incorporate language from my fathers tribe of Tweed Heads.

The Moiyum (waterlily) is a strong symbol of emergence, strength and growth.
